Varsity set for 10 day slot in the middle of deadline season

Get out your foam fingers

The much anticipated Varsity dates have finally been announced.

Unlike previous years, Varsity 2015 will take place over 10 hectic days smack bang in the middle of exams and deadlines.

But over the few weeks we will see the best sports members of both universities compete against each other.

With the addition of both Futsall and Dodgeball this year, this means that varsity has got even bigger as more points are on the line.

Not only this but we do have a slight upper hand due to Uni of’s football team getting banned.

It all kicks off on the April 27th with the basketball and ends on the May 6th with the table tennis and swimming.

However the fate will be decided just under a month later when the all important cricket match will be played.

Here are the dates of each event and where they will be played.

27th April- Basketball- Capital FM Arena

28th April- Lacrosse, Futsal & Dodgeball- Clifton

29th April- Ice Hockey- Capital FM Arena

30th April- Volleyball & Netball- Clifton

1st May- Football- Meadow Lane

2nd May- Rugby Union- Lady Bay

4th May- American Football- Lady Bay

6th May- Table Tennis & Swimming- UoN

5th June- Cricket- Clifton

Rugby League and Hockey dates and venues are still TBC

Dodgeball team member, Tom Wilkins, is especially excited about the new events being held at Clifton.

He said: “It should be especially good this year with dodgeball and futsal being up at Clifton, hopefully some more support from New Hall and Peverell residence will help bring us back some well-deserved points”

After a 33-15 win over UoN this week, Women’s first team Rugby Union coach Daniel Edson, believes that a win at Varsity could be on the cards for Trent.

“For the girls to get a win over Uni of which they haven’t for five years now is amazing. Now full of confidence going forward with this unofficial varsity win it means that a varsity win is definitely within our grasp”

History student, Paige said: “Although it’s during exam period it is a must thing to keep up with, there isn’t a bigger rivalry and every bit of support is welcomed with all sports.”
