Big fat no to the return of Ocean golden tickets
Scrapped: Ocean’s annual passes fail again
NTSU’s previous decision to remove the option of an Ocean annual
pass for Trent students caused little to no outrage amongst the clubs’
regulars.
This year, Media and Communications student, Benjamin King
submitted a ‘Big Idea’ to the Student’s Union aimed at bringing back the
safety net for Ocean entry.
The idea proposed stated, “For the few students who were willing to
justify an expense of £83 on nightclub entry, the annual pass was
extremely useful for not having to worry about getting tickets from the
sports teams’ books each and every week.”
It went on to say “I would propose that the Students’ Union work to
bring back the annual pass, even if in fewer quantities.”
Second year Education Studies and Psychology student, and Ocean
regular, Rhianna Walsh says “I think as long as the money is still going
towards the Student’s Union, why not make it easier for the committed
Ocean goers?”
Unfortunately the movement was not as popular with students as
Ben would have hoped, with the majority vote being against his
proposal.
Laura Hallam, a second year Health and Social student and Dance Social Sec
said: “I think it not making a comeback is a good thing because members of
societies are dedicated to going out every week and risk not getting a ticket,
for example, on the last Ocean of the year.”
She continued: “Whereas Annual Pass holders would be guaranteed to get in,
which just doesn’t seem fair. Also it means less Ocean tickets for societies,
which would impact the funds getting put back into the clubs.”
Finally, Benjamin told the Tab: “I’m incredibly saddened that the Annual
Pass won’t live to see another day, but I understand and respect the
decision of the student body. For us 40 former pass holders, life will go
on. It will just involve a lot more queuing”.
