The pipes burst in my halls so they sent me to Travelodge

Spurting pipe blasts freshers in Minerva House

Six soggy students have had to move out of their halls after a water pipe burst and flooded their bedrooms.

The incident took place at around midnight on Monday, at Minerva House in Spaniel Row.

It is believed a gasket burst on a pipe in the ceiling of the third floor causing damage to carpets, paintwork and ceilings on the third and second floor of the building.

The cause of the burst pipe is yet to be discovered. But according to the building owners, Fortis Student Living, the pipes receive maintenance checks every two weeks.

Members of Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service were called to the scene.

The students affected have been moved to alternative rooms inside the accommodation and others are staying at the Travelodge in Maid Marian Way.

Fortis Student Living said the students will be moved back within five days while the rooms dry out.
