‘I want a crazy Anchor man themed wedding’ – meet the couple who got engaged at uni

Third year students who are ready to tie the knot on Don’t Tell the Bride

Always dreaming of that big day? Already decided on the flowers, dress, venue? Just waiting for that right man to come along and sweep you off your feet?

Or are you simply just thinking wait I’m still a student.

For childhood sweethearts Emma Hubbard and Dale Fallows their big day isn’t that far off.

The pair have been together for four years after meeting at college and now hope to tie the not on the TV show Don’t Tell the Bride next year.

Dale is in his third year and studies Media Creatives. He’s four years older than Emma.

He said it was just a coincidence that they both ended up at Trent.

He said: “We both liked Trent and it was a good uni for our courses, so we ended up coming together.”

Most girls have their ideal proposal location mapped out in their heads for years and years before the big day actually happens. In front of the Eiffel Tower, on a desolate beach or written in rose petals.

But brave Dale decided to pop the question in their studio flat in Gill Street halls after a day of treating his now fiance, Emma, to a romantic meal at her favourite restaurant on their anniversary.

After the meal, Dale rushed home to light candles and put on music for the big moment.

He said: “I got down on one knee in our halls, Emma had joked about getting married earlier that day which made me really nervous but all those nerves went away as soon as Emma said yes.”

His fiancee Emma added: “He knew I wanted to around my family and friends when he proposed, which is why he chose the location. We’ve been engaged for a year and a half now. We plan to get married after graduation.”

The ring

Since getting engaged the couple have celebrated in Paris and their family and friends have thrown them surprise engagement parties.

Despite being getting engaged at a young age, Dale explained that all of the couples’ friends and family were very happy for them.

He said: “I didn’t tell anyone I was proposing so it was a shock, I think my mum made a passing comment like, ‘well you could have told me.’

“After I did it we went down to show the flat below us but no one noticed Emma’s ring for a while, I think it was pretty unexpected.”

Emma, a third year Broadcast Journalism student, explained that there was no rush to get engaged.

“It just felt like the right time. If we weren’t at uni and were in jobs we would have got engaged anyway so we just thought because we’re at uni why let it stop us.”

She added: “We wanted it as a commitment, we always knew we couldn’t get married right away but we wanted a long engagement.”

The happy couple have also applied to appear on the TV show, Don’t Tell the Bride, however their ideas of a perfect day could not be more different.

Dale said: “I want a crazy Anchor man themed wedding. Where I can wear a bright blue suit. Or maybe just a movie themed wedding where Iron man can marry us and every table has a different movie theme.

“Or maybe a space themed wedding!”

Emma swiftly added: “Well that’s not going to happen, I want a nice traditional wedding in the summer. I’m quite boring in that sense”

The loved up duo are set to graduate this year. The Tab wishes them all the best.
