Freshers Ball Flop

Shock: Freshers Ball was crap

Hundreds of first year students were left feeling pretty gutted last night after the Freshers Ball turned out to be a little bit shit.

Some students paid up to £35 for a ticket to attend the final event of freshers that was held at City SU.

The evening was described by the Student Union as ‘the glittering highlight to your first year’  with promises of casino tables and special guests.

The night saw Fuse ODG, Becky Hill and Mista Jam take to the stage to perform, but one fresher said that it was just like listening to Radio 1 all night.

First year, Matthew, attended the ball and actually expected a sit down dinner.

He said: “I thought it was rubbish because it was basically just a night out in the SU which is rubbish anyway with everyone dressed up really smart. The casino part was just a black jack table where like 5 people could play at one time.”

“It just wasn’t my idea of a ball really. I was sort of expecting like a meal type thing. If I hadn’t paid for a ticket then I wouldn’t have gone.”

Another first year, Hannah Smith, was also left disappointed after bouncers wouldn’t let her back into the event after going into the smoking area at 12am.

She said: “There were no signs pointing to a designated smoking area and we saw some of the door staff standing next to where we came in and holding the door open, so we went out for some fresh air and stood right by the door, but as soon as we did that they closed the door and refused to let us back in, even though they saw us leave a minute before.

“The bouncers didn’t stamp our hands or anything but because our tickets had been ripped when we first arrived they wouldn’t let us back in.”

Hannah then had to wander around Nottingham until she could catch the bus back home.

International Relations fresher, Ciaran Jones, thought the whole night was a huge let down.

Fresher’s trying to get photographic evidence of Fuse ODG’s really “bad” set

He said: “The bars were pretty much all over crowded and not only did I think the line up was boring but I thought Fuse ODG was actually bad.”

“Also the fact that I’d spent Friday at stealth and Saturday at bodega last weekend made this look even worse.”

Emily Lockwood is a third year and isn’t shocked that the ball was crap.

She said: “Our Freshers Ball was at The Point at Clifton and our only guest was Matt Edmondson from Radio 1, which is the definition of shit. I didn’t even bother buying a ticket, and I think it was the best decision I ever made.”
