Here’s all of the alcohol-free events happening at Sussex Freshers

Sometimes it’s nice to be sober

Whether you're seeking the perfect hangover cure, or simply fancy a night off the lash – here are all the non-boozy events going on throughout Freshers' Week.

Events running all week

Box Set Brunch

From Sunday to Friday the Student Union are showing TV box sets whilst serving brunch across the campus bars. Screenings include: Parks & Recreation, Doctor Who, Blue Planet, Friends, Day of the Triffids (1981) and Brooklyn. So if the hangover's looming, and Netflix is calling – this is the perfect hangover cure.

SU Escape Game

Everyday that week, from 11-4, will see an escape room experience at Falmer Bar. A great ice-breaker, this quirky event involves working in teams of 3 to 6 people in order to solve a series of puzzles.

SU Welcome Hub

Set up in the middle of Library Square, the Welcome Hub is there to answer any questions you may have. Here, you can also buy tickets to freshers events and collect wristbands from 10am-5pm – Sunday to Sunday.

Saturday 15

Free Shop

Consisting of items previous students have donated, the free shop is perfect for those last minute bits and bobs. The free shop will run Saturday, Sunday and Monday from 12 – 3pm in Falmer House Debating Chamber.

Sunday 16

Dodgeball

From 2-5pm, Active US are running a friendly dodgeball tournament in the Sports Centre. It's free and anyone can play – let's get physical.

Monday 17

Caravan Theatre

On the Monday and Tuesday of Freshers' Week, a portable caravan will pop up on campus. Inside you can watch a 10 minute show. This year, shows include "Can't Touch This" and "The Time Of Your Life", which both focus on sexual consent and mental health.

Drop-in Yoga

Sussex’s Yoga society are hosting a £1 yoga session from 2-3pm in Meeting Room 2, Falmer House. This is the perfect chance to unwind from the madness of freshers' and get your detox on. Other yoga programmes during the week include: PiYo, Aerial Yoga and Free Yoga, hosted by Sussex sport.

Big Night In

The Big Night In runs from 6pm-11pm in Room 76, Falmer Bar. It offers a chance to relax during freshers' week with retro-video games and film screenings.

Tuesday 18

Poster Sale

If you're worried your uni room is looking a bit bare, head down to Sussex’s poster sale in Falmer Quad. The sale is running from 10am-5pm on Monday and Tuesday, with a variety of posters for sale.

SU Freshers Fair – Brighton and Beyond

Running from 11am-4pm in the Sports Centre, this freshers fair focuses on all things Brighton. From vouchers, goodies and free food, this is not one to be missed.

Roller Disco

Time to dust off those childhood roller-blades for one big night of throwbacks. One World Sussex are hosting a great roller disco in Mandela Hall from 7-10pm. Who needs booze when you've got disco?

Wednesday 19

SU Freshers Fair: Activities and Opportunities

This event is an absolute must during Freshers' Week. Here, all of Sussex's societies will be showcased, and you can sign up whatever takes your fancy. From the Dog Walking Society to Craft Beer, there is something for everyone. The fair will be running from 11am-4pm outside Falmer House.

Freshers Bingo

If freshers' week has got you feeling like a Grandma already, then head down to Northfield bar at 7pm. At only 50p per a sheet, bingo is definitely a cheap, easy, go-to for a non-boozy night.

Thursday 20

Crafternoon

Hosted by the Craft society, this is an afternoon where you can get your hands dirty. You can find them in Northfield Bar from 3-6pm.

Pier Party

Brighton’s iconic pier is open to Sussex students for one night of thrills. Running from 6-11pm, and part of the golden ticket, students can enjoy unlimited rides, discounted food and a variety of arcade games. For those wanting to take the night further, tickets include entry into some of Brighton’s biggest clubs.

Friday 21

Foodies Tour

Brighton is a foodie's heaven. So why not explore all the fantastic cuisine the town has to offer. The tour kicks off from Brighton station and runs from 2-5pm, showcasing the best of Brighton's restaurants and food stalls. Tickets are only £6, and you can definitely make that back in tasters – yum.

Saturday 22

Beach Volleyball

To make the most of living by the sea, check out free beach volleyball running from 12-2pm at Yellowace Beach Volleyball Courts, Brighton Beach. All levels of experience are welcome.

Sunday 23

Sunday Roasts Lunch

To fill those comfort food cravings, head down to Falmer Bar from 12pm. With veggie, vegan and gluten free options available, this roast dinner won't disappoint.

Wes Anderson screening: The Grand Budapest Hotel

Hosted in Falmer House Debating Chamber, this light-hearted comedy is the perfect way to end your last night of freshers. Head down from 8pm to bag yourself a seat.
