Police launch probe after Hicks Building burgled last night

Ewan SomervillePolice have launched an investigation after a break-in at the University of Sheffield’s maths department.
A burglar got into Hicks Building between 5pm on Tuesday and 8am this morning and intruded into an office.
Detectives believe a camera, notebook and keys were stolen.
Hicks is home to the University of Sheffield’s maths and physics schools, and is one of the largest teaching hubs on campus.
A South Yorkshire Police spokesperson told The Tab Sheffield: “Police are investigating after a reported burglary at a University of Sheffield building overnight yesterday (25 – 26 February).
“It’s believed that between 5pm on Tuesday and 8am on Wednesday, persons unknown have gained access to The Hicks Building and entry to one of the offices.
“It’s understood that a camera, notebook and some keys were stolen in the incident.
“We are currently working with the university as we carry out enquiries and review CCTV footage in and around the building.”
Sheffield University declined to comment.
