Hallam gives Doctor Who cast honorary degrees for visiting Sheffield for a few hours

Did they get a grade U tho?

Sheffield Hallam University has made the cast and crew of the most recent Doctor Who honorary Doctorates.

Those behind series 11 of the BBC show including star Jodie Whittaker and executive producers Chris Chibnall and Matt Strevens, were honoured by Hallam after they filmed an episode in Sheffield.

Director Andy Pryor and several producers attended the university's graduation ceremony to accept the awards.

Parts of the opening episode of series 11, "The woman who fell to earth", were set and shot in Park Hill in the city.

Chibnall said he was "thrilled" about the award, adding: "Doctor Who is a massive team effort so it’s particularly special that this citation is for the whole cast and crew.

"From the moment we made the decision for the Doctor to fall out of the sky into the streets and homes of Sheffield in 2018, the residents and the city have treated us brilliantly, on screen and off."

The cast and crew joined 11 other new Hallam honorary doctorates, including TV presenter Louis Theroux, Game of Thrones star – and cousin of the former Broomhill Friery owner – Sean Bean, and Sir Patrick Moore.

They joined some 7,500 Hallam students who graduate at Sheffield City Hall this month.
