As you will know, Sheffield is a diverse and vibrant city but with so much to see, where are the best places to clear your head and get inspired? We have put together a list of what we think are the top five places in and around Sheffield to get your creativity flowing.

If you're a fresher, or just want to see more of the places around Sheffield, use this list to get you out of the house and into some of the unheard places around you, there is something here to suit you. Some require you to have a lot of time while others need hardly any time at all, so you can fit it around your everyday outings.

The Peak District

Everyone who lives in and around Sheffield knows that this is a great place for a day out, with its complex natural form and over 1,437 km² of ground to discover and only a 10 minute bus ride away from the city centre, it's no surprise that this makes it to the top of the list. If you are looking for a weekend away there are some hotels and bed and breakfasts at reasonable prices, perfect for anyone who loves an adventure, photography or nature.

The Peak District

Claywood Bank Park

Located just past the train station and over the tramlines, it isn't too difficult to find the hidden nature reserve. Don’t let the hill put you off, as when you reach the top, you are greeted with a view overlooking the city centre. If this isn't your thing, there is still plenty of nature and woods to discover without going too far from the area you know.

Derwent Reservoir

This one is ideal if you have the time and means to travel and explore the area. Derwent Reservoir is a beautiful landscape, with different textures and seeing man-made architecture mix with the natural world, it's a painters’ dream. The tranquil countryside accompanied by the clear blue reservoir, makes it perfect for a break from the city. Located approximately 10 miles outside of Sheffield, it is slightly more difficult to get to than those on the rest of the list but makes for a perfect day out.

Sheffield City Centre

If you want to stay close to the city centre, this is perfect to both discover Sheffield and its culture. The architecture in Sheffield has proven to be abstract in its shape and with some of the buildings having writing, poetry and art on them, it is sure to get you thinking about more than just what meets the eye. It is common to look past what is around us, so paying closer attention to them will surely change your view on how you see the city.

Filled with historical artefacts and beautiful artwork, it only makes sense for this to make it on the list. Along with all the history, an indoor garden lays just outside, so you can enjoy nature, history and art all without moving too far. Located on the way to the town centre, it is ideal if you have limited time or don’t want to leave the city centre.

If you wonder around Sheffield for long enough you will see all of the vintage and modern shops and buildings so you will surely find some inspiration, whether you’re a creative person or just enjoy exploring, any of these places are sure to make your time worthwhile.
