George Green Library flooded by torrential thunder storm

Another UoN building destroyed by the elements

George Green library has been flooded after a thunder storm last night.

The ongoing work on the extension and refurbishment on campus has been severely halted, as water filled the floors and poured down the stairs.

The build was meant to be complete by Summer 2016 but will have to be pushed back to deal with the copious quantities of water that has soaked into the building. With most of the plugs being in the floor on the ground level, all electronics will have to be refitted and damaged furniture replaced.

The extension on completion was meant to “double the size of the existing library and provide a valuable increase in student study spaces and work rooms”. Well unless students like soggy feet and the smell of stagnate water while they study I am not sure they are going to appreciate this doubling in work space.

With The University of Nottingham’s ‘battle against the elements’ – remember last year’s fire that destroyed the building on Jubilee – this time water has ruined another new build on our campuses.
