Notts ranked in top 35 unis in the UK

We’re 143rd in the world

Notts has been ranked inside the top 35 unis in the UK.

The Times Higher Education World Rankings said we’re the 134th best university in the world.

Overall, 78 UK institutions made their way into the World University Rankings top 800 this year. That places us second only to the US for number of universities featured in the top tier.

Notts global ranking was 143rd, nearly 75 places behind our QS uni ranking of 70.

It will come as no shock to Notts culture vultures that the UK had the second highest proportion of international students among the top 200.

Nottingham figures for the student population in 2014/15 showed that international students made up 18 per cent of all Undergrads and a whopping 50 per cent of Postgrads.

He’s chuffed

Though the accolades seem never-ending for the world’s greenest university, we were pipped by some substandard unis – Sheffield and Queen Mary in London among the undeserving bunch.

So it is London (for now) who take the title of the world’s leading academic city with four of their institutions sitting pretty in the top 30 incl. Imperial College London, University College London. the London School of Economics and King’s College London.

Meanwhile our neighbours Nottingham Trent University don’t seem to be doing the city many favours with a cataclysmic ranking of 601-800 – not even worth assigning a number to.

Earlier this year, Notts had the indignity of being below glorified sixth forms like Coventry, Heriot-Watt and UEA in the 2015 Guardian league table.

We can now hold our heads high as we have regained our status as one of the best universities in the UK and the world.
