Trent student arrested after PC left with broken leg in Lacemarket

A Trent student has been arrested and charged today after a PC was left with a broken knee outside Market Bar.

Tarseer Waya, a third year Business Management joint honours student, was charged with GBH with intent to resist arrest.

Nottinghamshire police arrived at the club around 1am on Wednesday, responding to calls regarding an altercation within the venue.

The officer sustained his injuries shortly after and was given first aid at the scene. Notts ambulance service dispatched a fast-response paramedic who was on the scene within 10 minutes.

He was rushed to QMC, where he underwent surgery and is currently recovering.

Phil Matthews, Chairman of the Notts police federation, said: “We do get officers injured in the city centre fairly regularly but this is the first injury this serious for a number of months.”

A member of the organisation will be visiting the injured officer to show their support, according to the Nottingham Post.

The policeman was treated at QMC

Waya is due to appear at Nottingham Magistrate’s Court on October 24.

When approached for comment, NTU press office told The Tab they had heard “absolutely nothing”.
