Meat Free Mondays to be stopped with immediate effect

Following the passing of a motion at tonight’s Union Council Meeting

The Tab has learnt that Meat Free Mondays will no longer be taking place at any UCLU cafe, starting with immediate effect.

It was passed at a Union Council Meeting tonight with 18 in favour of the motion and eight against, with no abstentions.

The motion, proposed by Activities and Events Officer, Nick Edmonds and Sustainability Engagement and Operations Officer, Zakariya Mohran took four rounds of debating and was finally passed at just after 8pm this evening.

Meat Free Mondays was introduced last year in order to raise awareness of the amount of greenhouse gas emissions produced by the meat industry as well as to promote a vegetarian diet.

However, students have opposed the idea because it doesn’t allow them to make their own choice, costing the Union money as students go elsewhere for their lunch.

According to our sources, the Vegetarian Society brought all their members to the meeting with the President speaking against the motion.

One can only imagine they won’t be best pleased by tonight’s decision…
