Students in London spend the second least on alcohol out of any UK city

Wait, are we boring?

London students spend the second least on alcohol out of any university city in the UK.

According to the NatWest Student Living Index, the average London student spends only £5.42 on buying alcohol per week – about £1.50 less than the national average.

We were a strong £1.30 ahead of our closest competitor, Birmingham – but other big city universities like Newcastle and Glasgow were found to be spending almost double what we spend.

In the Index overall, we were named the 7th most cost-effective city in the UK for students – the top five being Edinburgh, Southampton, Cambridge, Oxford and Plymouth.

We’re not as boring as it sounds, though. We came 6th for expenditure on “going out,” which means the figure must just mean we don’t like drinking in our cramped flats.
