Liverpool Uni ranked best in the UK for Pharmacy, Anatomy and Physiology
UoL rose seven places to become a top 50 uni
The Guardian has released its 2020 university league tables and Liverpool ranks highest in the UK for students studying Pharmacy, Anatomy and Physiology.
Overall, UoL placed 50th out of 121 universities, beating Strathclyde, Falmouth and fellow Russell Group unis, Queens University Belfast and King's College London.
The league table's criteria uses information relevant to prospective students, from how beneficial teaching is to student and staff satisfaction rates.
The table also states the likelihood of a course leading to a good career and the typical UCAS points required to be accepted. These aspects are all combined so each uni receives a score out of 100, ultimately determining its standing in the overall league table.
University of Liverpool received a perfect score of 100 for Anatomy and Physiology, with a 95% student satisfaction rate and 89% of graduates in work after six months.
Pharmacy at UoL also scored 100 in the league table due to 93% of students being satisfied with teaching and an impressive student to staff ratio of 8:2.
Liverpool ranked highly for many of its science degrees; placing 2nd for Nursing and Midwifery, 3rd for Veterinary Science, 10th for Physics and 14th for Chemistry.
However, UoL ranked considerably lower in some arts and humanities subjects. It only placed 45th in the UK to study History, as well as 46th for English and 48th for Law – one of the uni's most popular degrees.
The league table includes other universities in around Liverpool, with Liverpool Hope and Edge Hill both placing higher than UoL, ranking 43rd and 48th overall, respectively.
Liverpool John Moores has dropped 14 places since last year, falling from 49th to 63rd, even though LJMU and UoL are often considered as being somewhat on par with one another.
The top five universities to study at in the UK are Cambridge, St Andrews, Oxford, Loughborough and Durham, each scoring at least 80/100. Who knows, as Liverpool's reputation continues to improve, maybe we could be among them one day!
