His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall have visited The University of Liverpool today as part of a one day visit to the city. They were greeted at the University's Victoria Building by hundreds of students and staff excitably waiting their arrival.
The main aim of the visit is to mark HRH's patronage of the Liverpool Institute of Irish Studies. He was also joined by the President of Ireland, Michael D Higgins, and Mrs Higgins. The President is also a patron of the Institute. They will attend a reception at the University of Liverpool to mark the occasion.
As well as visiting campus, trips will be made to St George's Hall, where His Royal Highness will view its newly discovered undercroft. Also, they will meet Dr Makiziwe Mandela, who has been in the city to view the new memorial plans for her father. The daughter of Nelson Mandela recently donated a collection of his drawing to be shown on display.
Her Royal Highness will visit Coram Beanstalk Story Starters children's Literacy event in aid of the charity's connections with Dolly Parton's Imagination Library in Liverpool.
2021 marks the 175-year anniversary of the opening of the Albert Dock by Prince Albert. The Prince of Wales will visit the Dock's International Slavery Museum and also businesses and attractions.
The Royal visit comes weeks after Prince Harry and Megan Markle visited community projects and organisation in Birkenhead.
