Liverpool’s best spots for breakfast

WAFFLES

We unveil the best locations for breakfast and brunch across the city – you’ve got all that time to spend indulging now you’re finished for summer!

The Tavern, Smithdown Road

The Tavern on Smithdown is a must see stop for anyone who enjoys the hearty nourishment of the Full English Breakfast.

Along with their staple of bacon and sausages, the Tavern will also see that you enjoy the  very best that American breakfast cuisine has to offer: syrup and pancakes, the American Way.

Far superior to any bogus notions of truth and justice, you can rely on The American breakfast to deliciously remind you why America is #1.

I hear that if you don’t leave chanting: “USA! USA! USA!” you actually get your money back.

Perfect for hangovers, the Tavern’s selection of eggy meals outshine the acerbic discomfort of drinking a Bloody Mary, and is certainly far more nutritious than your 24 pack of ProPlus.

Benny, Florrie or even omeletted, the Tav have got you covered.

Jeeves’ prairie oyster hangover cure ain’t got nuffin’ on this zygotic zensation.

But maybe you’re a lady, gent or gender-fluid being with a slightly sweeter tooth and a taste for the good mana of the simple life: french toast with blueberries.

Don’t sweat: you’re sorted, too.

Reminiscent of a simpler time when blueberries weren’t a superfood, nor the go-to cheat food of a bored Cross Fit trainer (like, we get it Chris mate: you think your food choices make you better than us. Fine. Leave it, yeah?) and eggy bread was a good morning treat before an important day at school.

It’s good old fashioned comfort food at its finest. And the lightly dusted powdered sugar on this eggy delight doesn’t stir unwanted flashbacks to “wavey” second year house parties that tried a little too hard to be the spiritual successor to the Skins series one promo trailer.

It’s just nice and simple. Like things should be at breakfast.

I know. Looks good right?

Bold Street Coffee

A staple of cosmopolitan life for the bohemian street scene in Liverpool. Perhaps the finest coffee in the city, and not a bad breakfast either.

Ooo. Looks nutritious…

Its location on the city’s preferred thoroughfare to the trappings of the city centre make Bold Street Coffee the perfect place to watch the life of Charity Street go by outside as well meaning (if overly cheerfuly) chuggers bedevil innocent passersby.

Sometimes its just nice to get out of the rain…

This does not constitute ‘snow’ by any means. You know nothing, Bold Street.

Moose Coffee, Dale Street

The Moose Breakfast menu is quite some reading material.

With over 20 different delicious choices on offer, you’ll probably find whatever it is you’re looking for.

Whether you’re a Grits kind of guy (in which case, give the Moose Rich Grits a whirl…) or a Lula Puebla lady (and, hey, who isn’t nowadays?) Moose has your smashed avocado and whatever-grits-actually-is covered on all bases.

And for any of you that are a little less straight and fast with your breakfasts, the all day breakfast menu lets you pick and choose your favourite bits without all the commitment of actually ordering a prêt meal (but with all the good bits).

Ziferblat, Albert Dock

Something of a wild card on our list as this is not on the tourist board’s list of Must-Have breakfasts per se but it needs mentioning in our list as it’s got to be the best value for money (in terms of the Standard Tab Index of Food:Payment ratio).

For 6p a minute guests at the Ziferblat can indulge on as much food, drink and WiFi as they can reasonably consume.

(Caption: Where was this during exam revision…? Amirite?)
