Twigg’s in Town

Labour MP Stephen Twigg was on campus fielding questions from students.

The Shadow Justice Minister (a title which makes him sound like a comic-book baddy) came to the Guild on Friday for a discussion with Labour Students. He was in fine form despite recently being demoted from being Shadow Education Secretary.

The 186th sexiest MP (according to sexymp.co.uk) made a short speech about how he got involved in politics, how Labour needs to be optimistic, and how former Lib Dem voters have mainly abandoned the yellow bellied tuition fee raisers – a prospect that no student will shed any tears over.

How he’s only 186th we’ll never know

Twigg then took questions from the audience and even managed to keep his friendly manner under a bizarre rant from a woman who certainly did not appear to be a student. She proclaimed ‘my belief is that there’s a conspiracy’ before adding she ‘knows things that I can’t talk about here tonight’ which was certainly mysterious.

Despite that bizarre intervention the event was well attended and well run by the Labour Students Society which now appears to have cemented its position as the biggest political society on campus – despite losing their former glorious leader James Coe to the clutches of the Guild.
