Attention film fans! A new international film festival has arrived in Morecambe

The Bay International Film Festival is co-founded by Lancaster University lecturer Anna Kumacheva

The Bay International Film festival is currently taking place in Morecambe for the first time.

The film festival is co-founded by Lancaster University PhD film lecturer Anna Kumacheva, an award-winning filmmaker and previous judge at the Edinburgh Short Film Festival.

This year’s festival is home to over 50 film screenings, alongside networking events, Q&A sessions, exhibitions and an awards ceremony which are taking place in venues across Morecambe.

The festival has been running free community film screenings every Wednesday evening at the West End Playhouse, with tickets selling from £7.50 to £45. As well as this, the festival will be showing film screenings of Dr Strangelove, The Shining and Paths of Glory in Reel Cinema. A Q&A with Jan Harlan, producer and right-hand man of director Stanley Kubrick, will also take place at Reel Cinema on Saturday 28th October.

The poster for the festival was selected in a competition, with the winning design being made by Lancaster University fine art student Amy Barlow.

Events will draw to a close this Sunday with a closing party at the Playhouse.
