It’s time to ‘Pass Go’: Lancaster Monopoly is to be released this week

Just in time for arguments round the flat Christmas tree

The Lancaster edition of the board game, Monopoly, will be released on the 24th October, available at Waterstones, WHSmith, The Works Ryman, and on Amazon.

It was announced earlier this year that a Lancaster edition of Monopoly would be released and Lancaster residents were invited to send in suggestions of which landmarks should feature on the board game.

Over 30+ Lancaster landmarks will appear in the game, including The Priory, which will replace Old Kent Road on the standard version of Monopoly. Other recognisable Lancaster places will include Lancaster Castle, Lancaster University, the Maritime Museum, and the Ashton Memorial.

People were also given the opportunity to nominate three Lancaster charities to appear on the Community Chest spaces.

Lancaster won a 10-strong north-west contest to become the next city to have its own edition of Monopoly, beating Chester.

Ella Gibbs, Custom Games Executive at Winning Moves UK (who are producing the game), said: “So Lancaster did beat Chester in the bid to get a Monopoly board and I think we picked Lancaster because there’s just so much local pride, everyone’s so proud to be here they just love Lancaster and there’s just some really great landmarks.

“Lancaster has obviously got the Ashton Memorial, you’ve got the Castle, the Town Hall, the Cathedral so we really are spoilt for choice. All those landmarks are just going to help make it a great looking board and hopefully the public will be really excited because they just really love being from Lancaster.”
