Ew! People are calling out this nail artist for putting live insects and frogs in her sets

I really don’t like this

Have you heard of ladybird nails? If you’re thinking of cute nail art with a black and red colour scheme, then you’re wrong. A nail artist on TikTok is taking it a step further with her acrylic insect nails – and they’re alive.

AmoriIsScary, also known as Asia Amori, is a Florida-based nail technician who is popular for her unique designs. This includes toilet seat and rat-inspired designs, complete with a fake tail. But her most recent controversy is her bug-related nail sets. From bullfrogs to ladybirds, Amori doesn’t back away from using insects or amphibians as part of her nail designs.

Back in March she showed her installation process for the ladybird nails, poking holes in the acrylic so the ladybirds can breathe. But people in the comments pointed out this doesn’t stop them from crawling up and down, slowly suffocating because of the toxins used for acrylic sets.

“I would have called state board. This is entirely unacceptable. Let’s put you in a nail and see how you like it,” one comment said.

“This set could have been done with ladybug charms instead of real insects. What possessed you to think animal cruelty is okay in the name of beauty?” said another nail artist.

Amori seemed unbothered in the comments, replying with laughing emojis and liking comments defending her. The video is still up on her Instagram but has been deleted from her TikTok because of the backlash.

Her most recent problematic nail set involved live frogs. In mid August she shared the forest-inspired set to her Instagram and TikTok, showing the bull frogs trapped in acrylic nails with tiny air holes. The videos were swamped with negative comments, and she quickly took them down.

Amori then released an apology on her TikTok.

“It was not to my knowledge that it was considered animal abuse, due to the fact that they were not physically harmed and had multiple air holes,” she said in a statement uploaded to TikTok.

“I understand that my creative vision did not come across as intended. I truly value and respect all living creatures.”

People in the comments are not having it.

“If ‘here damn’ was an apology,” said one comment.

“The lady bugs, the frogs, the mice – at which point does ‘I didn’t know’ become something to hide behind?” said another.
