All the ways Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are monetising their perfectly timed engagement

Travis’ American Eagle collab dropped just a day after

We were all totally shocked when Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce announced their engagement on Instagram, but a lot of people accused them of monetising it.

So, Taylor and Travis have been together for almost two years now. She’s been spotted at loads of his games, cheering him on, and he’s travelled around with her for the Eras Tour. He even performed on stage with her once.

On August 26, they finally announced that they were engaged. But Travis’ dad, Ed Kelce, revealed that Travis had actually proposed two weeks earlier. And of course, viewers immediately started working out why the couple waited until the 26th to make it public.

Now, literally the next day after the announcement, Travis revealed his brand Tru Kolors was dropping a big collab with American Eagle. And suddenly, people were saying the engagement wasn’t just about love, it was also about business. Taylor didn’t escape the criticism either.

So, here are at all the ways Taylor and Travis are monetising their perfectly timed engagement announcement.

Taylor announcing her album on the ‘New Heights’ podcast

Remember when Taylor popped up on Travis and Jason’s podcast to announce her 12th album, The Life of a Show Girl? A lot of people questioned why Taylor chose a sports-focused platform for such a significant announcement. By choosing that podcast, she brought together her fanbase and Travis’ huge sports audience, basically doubling the buzz.

The album announcement right before the engagement news

A couple of weeks before the engagement, Taylor officially announced her new album. The timing wasn’t lost on viewers. With all eyes on her relationship, it’ll make the album release even bigger. The engagement was timed perfectly to keep the spotlight shining on her music.

Literally one day after the engagement, Travis launched his American Eagle collab with his brand Tru Kolors. Talk about timing! The line had more than 90 pieces and instantly got loads of attention. But instead of excitement, a lot of people felt like the engagement was used to hype up sales.

Taylor’s daily vinyl drops

Taylor is known for her vinyls, and right before the engagement she started dropping new ones every day. Sure, Swifties were excited to collect them (including me), but the timing again made people suspicious. Was it really all about the music, or was it about keeping the buzz alive?

The record-breaking engagement post

Their engagement post didn’t just get attention, it broke records. It became one of the most liked posts on Instagram. Taylor has always been super influential. And this just shows how powerful they are together. But some think the timing of the post was planned to make it go viral and boost their influence even more.

Brands jumping on the engagement

And of course, the internet never misses a chance. Loads of brands immediately linked themselves to the engagement. From clothing companies to random ads, everyone wanted a piece of the Swift–Kelce spotlight. And it just proved how commercialised the whole thing had become.

So yeah, Taylor and Travis’ engagement is definitely real and very cute. But the way it lined up with album releases, clothing launches, and record-breaking posts has people convinced it isn’t just about love, it is show business.
