Hope that dementia’s days are numbered

Dr Jon Brown gives dementia a piece of his mind.

University Medical School’s Dr Jon Brown has been awarded a grant of nearly £320,000 to investigate how parts of the brain communicate in certain conditions.

The research will look at how electrical activity in the brain can lead to dementia.

Early studies indicate that excess production of tau protein affects communication between the hippocampus and prefrontal cortex (that’s the parts that are key for learning and memory, in case you aren’t a Grey’s Anatomy fan).

Dementia affects around 820,000 people in the UK, costing our economy a pricey £23 billion, click here to learn more.
