Last weekend the Exeter Emeralds travelled to Cheltenham for the annual BCA Western Classics competition.

A convoy of cars carrying the nervous girls arrived at the arena on a very early and cold Sunday morning with a long day ahead of them.

The level 3 stunt group were up first and the determined girls showed what they were capable of with a flawless routine. Up next was the level 4 stunt group who had a big task ahead of them with 4 exhausted girls and a brand new routine to perform. It was a hard job to carry out but all the girls did their best and another perfect performance was executed.

The dance squads then had to sit through another 4 hours of performances before it was their turn to take to the stage. Jazz was first with a beautiful rendition of Coldplay’s ‘Fix You’. Their performance was faultless despite one of the key dancers missing due to an unfortunate injury.

Pom was up next after a quick turn around following jazz and with not much time to warm up the nerves struck. The routine was long and tiring but pure energy and passion dominated the performance and yet again the girls smashed it. Hip hop was the last squad to compete. They had 4 hard acts to follow and contained many of the girls who had already competed so not only anxieties but also tiredness began to take over. However, they did not let this affect them and they exceeded expectations with a sharp and impeccable performance.

The girls all knew they had done their best against hard competition but whether this was enough was still unknown as they anxiously awaited the results. The girls achieved a clean sweep and nailed it winning 5 out of all 5 categories entered – dominating the competition. All their hard work paid off and they should all be immensely proud of what they have achieved.
