The Hatfield broken window was caused by a fight outside the porters’ lodge, police confirm

A 35-year-old has been detained


Durham constabulary have confirmed that the breaking of a window in Hatfield College was the result of a fight, and that one man has been arrested.

On Tuesday night, Police were called to Hatfield College porters' lodge after a window was smashed. At the time, the porters' lodge declined to comment.

The Durham Tab can now reveal that the broken window was the result of a fight, during which one man was punched and another arrested. A 35-year-old man was detained under the Mental Health Act and is now receiving treatment.

Police told The Durham Tab: “Officers attended North Bailey at 9.50pm after reports of an incident, during which a man was allegedly punched and a window pane at the porter’s lodge of Hatfield College was damaged.

“A 35-year-old man, of no fixed abode, was detained under the Mental Health Act and police inquiries continue.”
