Man arrested after a sexual assault on Lawson Terrace
He was riding a bike when he approached the woman
A 19-year-old man has been arrested after a young woman was sexually assaulted in the Viaduct area last night.
Police received a call just before midnight from a woman who was assaulted by a man on a bike, which lead to an arrest within thirty minutes.
Speaking to The Tab, Durham Police said: “We received a report shortly before midnight last night that a young woman had been sexually assaulted in Lawson Terrace, Durham, by a man riding a bicycle.
“The woman was not injured.
“A 19-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident within half an hour of the report being made.
“He remains in custody today.”
Lawson Terrace is just off Hawthorn Terrace
A conscientious user took to Yik Yak to warn other Durham citizens about the incident.
Second year, Courtney Lovell, who lives on Lawson Terrace, told The Tab:
“Lawson Terrace is a quiet street, so we’re shocked to hear that this has happened.
“It’s definitely made me more wary of walking alone at night.
“We really hope that she’s okay.”
