Search for missing Mary’s second year continues

• Over 1000 people have signed a petition to install gates and CCTV cameras along the riverbanks of the River Wear are multiple incidents surrounding the river over the last 14 months.

• Police have today confirmed that they have moved their search to the river.

Ch Insp Sue Robinson, from Durham Police, said: “This is the first opportunity for us to make a search of the river.

“Over the past two days the river has been high and very fast-flowing.

“Information from friends and CCTV indicate he was last sighted in this area.

“We are concentrating on the area where he was last seen, however, we are also making an appeal for anyone who had a sighting of him to contact is.

“This is still an active missing person inquiry.”

• Insp Dave Coxon has said: “We do know from his phone provider that his mobile was powered down at 12:05am on Thursday.

“CCTV captured Euan eight minutes earlier as he was crossing Framwellgate Bridge after he left his friends in The Love Shack.”

He has also said that the police are focussing their search on land at the moment.

• Both students and local businesses have been putting up posters to appeal for information



• Yesterday mountain rescue canoe teams searched from Framwellgate Bridge to Finchale Abbey and the search continues today

• Eyewitnesses claim to have seen him at Falafel on Claypath at 1:30am on Thursday, they believe he walked towards Market Square
• Durham’s acting VC, Professor Ray Hudson, has emailed the student body to inform them of the situation.

He said: “We are extremely concerned for Euan’s safety and are working closely with the police to locate Euan.

“Searches are ongoing and we are very grateful to those students and staff who are taking part in the search.”

Insp Dave Coxon said: “We have serious concerns for Euan’s welfare as there has been no trace of him since the early hours of Thursday morning. He hasn’t responded to any attempts to contact him and his phone has not been traced.

“If anyone has seen him since then, or if they saw a young man matching his description in Durham on last night, I would ask them to contact us as soon as possible on 101.”
