Team of the Week: Women’s Lax

DU Lax are sending shockwaves through the BUCS system with a fit little fresher and some serious American talent. They’re our Team of the Week – find out why…

There is no denying that Durham has always been a powerhouse for lacrosse but this year DULAX is looking stronger than ever. This year we have been given a new lease of life, with a new Coach and six international students. Both have brought brand new talent, techniques and most importantly banter to the pitch. Our team this year has trained day and night (over 100 hours so far this term) in our mission to become the best lacrosse team in Palatinate history.

We were up against our two toughest rivals for the first BUCS matches, travelling and hosting Birmingham and Loughborough respectively. Birmingham are one of our hardest opponents and it’s normally a closely fought battle but on October 16th, Durham completely demolished the Brum brigade. In the words of Peter Warburton, the 14-4 away victory was enough to ‘send shock waves through University women’s lacrosse’.

Last Wednesday we had the privilege, nay the terror, of hosting the purple giants Loughborough at home on the beautiful new Rubber Crumb. An unbiased and polite response would be that the game was a little feisty.

On the other hand, it was a ridiculous example of a poorly channelled fight with Loughborough failing to get a single shot on goal in the first half. Durham truly stepped up to the metaphorical plate and showed them what a team can achieve if they use their lacrosse sticks as sporting equipment and not prehistoric weapons.

Another impressive 14-2 win for the Palatinates.

Well what now? We’re going to keep fighting and training hard as we’re all aware that it’s a long road to the BUCS final. Please come along and support us in our next home match against Nottingham on November 6th so we can show off our ball skills while you check out the new American tottie and our fit little fresher.
