Durham has risen in the league tables to 6th place, according to the Guardian’s new University Guide 2014.

The guide, released yesterday, looks at every subject taught at universities in the UK for those starting university in 2014.

Coming 8th in 2012 and 7th in 2013, we’ve crept up the league tables once again, now in 6th place after Cambridge, Oxford, LSE, St Andrews and UCL.

And we’re certainly not the only uni to have changed position. Birmingham has scored considerably higher in the 2014 table, rising from 30th place to 15th.

Warwick, on the other hand, has drastically slipped down the ranks from 5th place in 2013 to 10th in 2014.

Despite being lower in the rankings, the table awards Durham higher career prospects than both Oxford and St Andrews.

The guide also offers subject league tables for 2014, which provide some surprising results.

Durham’s rankings by subject vary considerably, coming top of the league table for Sports Science and 2nd for both English and Geography, whilst other subjects come out a lot lower, such as Maths in 14th place.
