Cardiff University drops 32 places to suffer its lowest ever university world ranking

On the bright side, it still beat Swansea Uni


Cardiff University has suffered its lowest ever score in a new world university ranking for 2024, dropping from 154th to 186th.

QS World University Rankings, which began in 2012, has seen Cardiff reach 122nd in the world at its peak but since 2016 its scores have on average declined.

The university received an overall score of 47.6 out of 100 which was based on a number of factors including employer reputation, academic reputation, and sustainability.

This puts Cardiff University at 27th in the UK overall, alongside it’s 186th rank in the 2024 world ranking.

It scored highly for its sustainability ranking, and despite going down 21 places globally, Cardiff was the 18th most sustainable university in the UK.

It also scored well in a number of subjects, with Cardiff being ranked sixth in the UK and 40th in the world for media and communication. As well as 43rd in the world and fifth in the UK for dentistry.

It also scored highly for nursing, psychology, architecture, and English literature.

Cardiff once again ranked the highest in Wales, with Swansea University at 298th which is its highest ever ranking and an improvement of nine places from the previous year.

No overall rankings were provided for the other Welsh universities.
