The Tab Cardiff is holding an open meeting to find new writers

Come along to our open meeting on 21st February at 6pm at The Vulcan

The Tab Cardiff is a news site run by Cardiff students, for Cardiff students. What’s not to love? Writing for us is a great way to boost your CV and writing skills, and make some new journalist friends. No prior journalism experience is needed, and it doesn’t matter what course you do, anyone can get involved. This is the exact type of work experience employers look for, and you can do it from the comfort of your own home (or bed if you want.)

As a writer, you can find out and report all the latest news on campus before anyone else, write about your favourite places in Cardiff (it’s a great opportunity to explore the city), and make lots of new friends at The Cardiff Tab socials. If this sounds like something you’re interested in, come along to our open meeting on Tuesday 21st February at 6pm in The Vulcan on Wyeverne Road.

What is The Cardiff Tab?

The Cardiff Tab is part of a larger student news site, The Tab. The Tab is a news site curated just for students, with over five million monthly readers, and local sites at over 30 universities across the UK. Articles published by The Cardiff Tab will be posted on our social media platforms which, combined, have over 14,000 followers. Most notably our Instagram has over 13,000 followers. We have also launched a TikTok account this year so if you would prefer to create video content alongside or instead of written content, it is very welcome.

The Tab Cardiff covers stories that affect or relate to students at not just Cardiff University, but the University of South Wales, and Cardiff Met also. However, if it’s a big story we also cover Aberyswyth and Swansea or any other Welsh universities as The Cardiff Tab is the only Tab branch in Wales.

Over the last year, we covered a range of exciting stories, from fun pieces like Our guide to celebrating St David’s Day just like a true Welsh person, or rating the best vintage shops in Cardiff to more serious news pieces, including when a woman was sexually assaulted on the Taff Trail near Blackweir Bridge. Whatever you enjoy writing about, we have opportunities for everyone.

Why should you write for The Tab Cardiff?

Writing for the Tab Cardiff will give you invaluable experience in the journalism industry, and an opportunity to be a part of a young and dynamic team. Previous Tab writers have gone on to write for national and international publications, such as Vogue, BBC, and The Times. Our team of student editors are available to train you and help you write articles, as well as a professional journalist from The Tab HQ.

We have weekly meetings and host fun socials with editors and writers, making it a fun way to meet new people.

If this sounds like something you’re interested in then we would love to see you at our open meeting in the Vulcan at 6pm on Tuesday 21st February  for a relaxed chat with our Editorial Team. If you’re unable to attend in person, just drop us a DM and follow us on Instagram for all the latest updates.
