EXCLUSIVE: Sidney Sussex May Ball announce first performers
The second stage headliner, and two main stage acts, have been revealed.
Natty will be headlining the second stage, whilst Nubiyan Twist and Session Victim will be appearing on the main stage.
With the headliner and many other acts still to be announced, Sidney Sussex’s ‘Beyond’ themed May Ball is already shaping up to be an ethereal night.
Nubiyan Twist are a huge 12 person band from Leeds and London, fusing groove driven music from around the world with soundsystem culture and jazz inspired improvisation. Listening to just a few tracks will prove their incredibly wide span of genres and get you hooked. Having shared stages with the massive names De La Soul, Hot 8 Brass Band, Quantic and Robert Glasper to name but a few, Nubiyan Twist are sure to take you to another world on June 15th.
Session Victim are a two man house band who unleash an unparalleled energy behind their vinyl decks. Fall beyond the boundaries of house music and dive into hip hop, techno, funk and soul in the midst of a DJ set. The German duo will be making their Glastonbury debut just one week after the Sidney Sussex May Ball, adding to their global roll call of the best underground parties and festivals in the world and their conversion of new fans dance floor by dance floor. Their live set pitches the energy levels up even further with a live bass guitar and the frenzied head banging of two friends jamming like their lives depend on it. Session Victim are sure to be a crowd pleaser on Sidney Sussex’s main stage, and are definitely not an act to be missed.
Natty, Sidney Sussex’s second stage headliner, grew up in North London, surrounded by an eclectic mix of sounds from Neil Young to Bob Marley. Moving effortlessly from roots reggae to intimate love songs and rousing calls to arms, his intelligent music breaks the mould: providing captivating social commentary but with an acute eye for those personal moments that shape our lives. Natty’s debut album, “Man Like I”, was immensely successful across Europe with hit singles “Bedroom Eyes” and “Badman”, the latter topping the charts in Japan. His second album, “Release the Fear” released earlier this year, has had seven years in the making, resulting in even more vibrant and eclectic tracks to be played at Sidney Sussex’s May Ball 2016.
Sidney Sussex May Ball’s Ents Officers Alex Darby and Edmund MacKeith have quoted “We believe our first releases represent this year’s committee’s ethos of innovation and originality. We’ve left no stone unturned to curate a line up brimming with a wide range of colourful styles from across the globe, and hope these three acts give a taste of the excitement to come.”
The remain acts will be announced later this month, along with the launch of the ‘Beyond’ app. Keep your eyes fixed on the Tab on June 1st, which is when the Sidney Sussex May Ball 2016 headliner will be announced.
