We talk to Louise, Cambridge’s biggest club promoter

So you’ve had all the information through about reading lists, lecture timetables and other soul-crushing stuff like that.

Somebody on your course has probably got a bit keen on the freshers’ group and claimed to have read all the set texts already. Cambridge is starting to look like the place where fun goes to die.

But have no fear – fun, despite your DoS’s ardent wishes, does still exist. With this in mind, we caught up with Louise Johnstone, who runs Big Fish Ents, Cambridge’s biggest and best club night, to find out what she has in store to save us all from our textbooks next term.

Hi Louise. So tell us, for those who are new to Cambridge what Big Fish is all about.

Big Fish Enterprises is Cambridge’s leading purveyor of quality entertainment and has been a mainstay of Cambridge night life for the past seven years. We put on the greatest parties in the best venues the city has to offer. Big Fish Ents originated seven years ago, and we were the first and still are the best student led promotions company in Cambridge.

So what have you got planned for the rest of Freshers’ Week?

We have two massive events – Fresh Meat at Fez on Wednesday, and the institution that is LKD at Lola Lo on Thursday.

Apart from the old favourites, have you got anything new planned for next term?

Yes, definitely. We are launching our Big Fish Ents Radio show on Cam FM this term, and our Sunday night at Lola Lo is new.

We have loads of events booked in including varsity snow party, silent discos, ArcSoc events and karaoke nights to name but a few. We have got a brand new DJ for Fresh Meat, Le Jazz, (aka Peter Moore) who will be tearing up the Fez club every Wednesday night.

Big Fish consistently put on my favourite nights in Cambridge, so I don’t need persuading. But I am interested to know how you would sell their nights to freshers who are yet to experience the sweet nectar of £1.50 Jaegerbombs. What sets Big Fish Ents apart from the rest?

Big Fish Ents is better than the competition as we are here to put on a party and don’t take ourselves too seriously. Life is too short not to enjoy what you do. We let our nights do the talking.

I have heard rumours of a partnership with CamFM for Sunday Lola’s (okay fine, I’m on the CamFM mailing list). Could you tell me more?

We are so excited about Sundays, on the first floor it’s going to be ultra cheese and on second floor is a more discerning music policy. We have the BEST drinks deals: £5 shooters and £1.50 singles so it’s going to messy. We and Cam FM are very excited to be working together on this venture.

If Big Fish Ents were a drink, what drink would it be?

We would be a cup of tea, because we are a staple of every student’s diet.
