Robinson 6 – 2 Churchill

On the freezing evening of May 12th, Robinson’s mixed hockey team decimated Churchill 6-2 in a hard fought match. The culmination of a lengthy cuppers season proved to be a finale of epic proportions.

The match provided male and female hockey players from the two colleges an opportunity to shake off the stresses of exam term so far by hitting a ball around. Hard. Pre-match optimism from both teams was high; Antonia Gray of Churchill claimed to be “Totally up for it” whilst Robinson man Adam Eales claimed “We’re going to win”.

The first half was a close-run thing, finishing 2-2 at half time. Churchill maintained possession and pressure with two stunning goals from Constantin Boye.

Robinson had their say too though. They scored the only goal of the match to come from a short corner and Tim Heady added another with a “gorgeous” back-stick shot.

The second half, though, was an entirely different story.

Despite enthusiastic Churchill support from the sidelines Robinson took control of the game. Urged on by the unusual cheer of “This is our time!” they streaked ahead with 3 more goals of varying quality.

The 6th and final Robinson goal of the match came during the final minutes of the game. An awesome one-man sprint down the length of the pitch culminated in a devastatingly precise flick over a star-struck keeper.

Despite the final result this was an exciting game, with some great flair and enthusiasm from both teams. “It’s been a really good year for Robinson hockey” said excitable players after the match, and Captain Ed Hyde was repeatedly cited as the driving force. An awesome game overall with Robinson definitely earning their position as mixed hockey victors.
