We tried the best independent spots around Brum and let you know our favourites

We tried and tested the best takeaway spots in and around Birmingham that can be ordered through Deliveroo.

So, look no further. We have the run down on the best places for your takeaway fix, with a rating of overall value for money.

Tiger Bites Pig

We ordered the braised pork belly rice bowl and the fried chicken bao buns. Both arrived steaming hot and full of flavour. We particularly liked how tender the pork was and the complementary flavours of the spicy mayo against the chicken.

Phat Buns

We were very happy with our food from here, we did the meal deal for two which was £29 but had a 25 per cent off entire menu discount. In the meal deal we got two burgers, two chips, two drinks and a portion of loaded fries – we couldn’t finish our normal chips let alone the loaded fries (which were semi-decent the next day).

The PHAT sauce was to die for – it tasted amazing!

The only let down was that the chips were slightly cold and the drinks could’ve been a bit bigger considering the food portion size.

Alicia’s Micro Bakehouse

For your pizza fix around Selly, Alicia’s Micro Bakehouse in Stirchley is the best option for this. The artisan dough is always cooked to perfection, and they have a wide range of options and toppings. We opted for a Fiorentina pizza as well as a Cheese, Chorizo, Tomato and egg bake for starter. Both were deliciously hot and tasted sensational.

Yes, egg on pizza slaps

The pizza tasted even better cold (in my opinion) for lunch the next day – and the portions are big enough for this! The pizza was £14 and the starter £7, to which were great value for how big the portions were.

Grounded Kitchen

How aesthetically pleasing

We ordered the Bulgogi King Prawn Nourish Bowl (added spicy peanut sauce) and Vitamin C Elixir Quencher, and absolutely loved this place. It’s a great option if you’re looking for a healthier, but still super tasty, takeaway. The nourish bowl was so flavourful and filling, and the spicy sauce gave it a good kick. The quencher was super fruity and refreshing. Delivery was really quick too!

How delicious!

Karaage

Ordering on a Friday night, this was one of the only places we could get to deliver to us in less than an hour. Our group consisted of two omnivores and a vegetarian, so we decided to choose a range of fish and veggie options.

Sushi heaven

The vegetarian menu was limited, but offered both sushi style dishes and hot options. We were excited to try the mixed gyoza, although the fillings of both the prawn and vegetable gyoza lacked flavour and were slightly soggy; we would have preferred them had they been crisped up in a pan before service. We really enjoyed the California Maki Sushi  filled with crab sticks, and enjoyed the combination of the crab with cucumber, avocado, japanese mayo and sesame seeds.

Spice Merchant

A great option for your Friday night curry

They were very quick to prepare our order and delivery was fast and efficient. We ordered a lamb Rogan Josh with boiled rice and a lamb biryani which came with a vegetable dahl. Overall we enjoyed the meal, it was still hot when it arrived and it was very enjoyable. It is a great place for your Friday night curry with a wide range of options.
