No Love Lost as venue is torn apart

Like their famous song, the building that 80s band Joy Divison played their last gig in is being torn apart, to make room for freshers.

Having been empty for six years, UOB’s Chamberlain Hall is being bulldozed to the ground to make way for a new 21 storey student hall building, creating more than 700 new bedrooms in the Vale.

Formerly known as ‘High Hall’ Chamberlain was used as a gig venue for UOB students in the 70s and 80s – most famously Joy Division performed their last concert there before Ian Curtis’s suicide.

£1.50 a ticket? Ah, a world before the FAB Facebook group.

Whilst the Chamberlain Hall is a bit of an eye-sore and has been unusable due to becoming in breach of a fire safety order, its demolition marks a goodbye to an iconic moment in music history. Is it time to pave the way for a New Order?
