Greggs is coming to Belfast

Did someone say 80p sausage rolls?

Bakery chain Greggs has revealed plans to expand its 1,670 Britain-wide store empire over to the Emerald Isle.

The plans will see 50 stores open across Northern Ireland with 10 located in Belfast and could potentially create 500 jobs.

Greggs opened a trial location in April this year at a motorway service between Glengormley and Templepatrick in County Antrim.

Now their planning application is underway to open a store at Donegall Square in Belfast city centre.

A spokesperson said: “We continue to view Belfast and Northern Ireland as an attractive market.

“We currently have one franchise open and continue to look for good opportunities to develop our estate.”

Kim Pelling, History and Politics third year and Greggs enthusiast said: “I’ve really missed them while I’ve been studying here so I’m really excited.

“Nothing beats a chicken bake.”
