I still have cuddly toys on my bed and I’m not ashamed

You can’t be a true adult without admitting that we all love cuddly toys, and really, our beds would be a lonely place without them.

Only a true grown up could still have cuddly toys on their bed. Right?

Well, I’m ready to admit that I do still – I don’t cuddle them but they do sit there. Looking at me. Reminding me.

Growing up is a tough old business. If you consider yourself to have had a good childhood, luckily for me I count myself part of this group, it’s hard to let go sometimes.

Kids aren’t kids for long, they become little wannabe adults who make themselves seem mature on the outside, but are still babies on the inside. If I think about it too long, it makes me bloody sad.

Once you’re at uni and forced to think about rent and getting a proper job and all that necessary but terrifying adult stuff,  you’re forced to wave goodbye to all your childhood comforts – like, for example, cuddly toys.

Big Teddy & Thor, jus’ chillin’ yo.

We are rushed through customers; from birth to walking to school to homework on the computer to the internet to risqué images to reality shows to eating disorders to cyber bullying to having to go to university, leaving home, leaving safety zone, gone.

Your whole life is planning for the future, one which sadly, no one can guarantee you’ll actually get to. So why aren’t we slowing down and saving the little pieces of our past selves to remember when we weren’t rushing through life at such a pace?

Well you know how you could remember to slow down? Cute teddies on your bed.

It’d be a bit of a lonely bed without them…

It’s fashionable to love Disney at any age. Soft toys on your bed should be the same; they represent a softer side to you before it was toughened and weathered through day to day life.

If you still like them, keep them right there. And if anyone asks, they’re just extra decorative pillows.

Is it okay to have cuddly toys on you bed still, or just a bit sad? Leave us a comment or tweet us your thoughts (and photos of your cuddly companions) @TheTabBelfast!
