Bartender of the week

He’s a huge hit with the ladies

The true heroes of Aberystwyth are those who work stupidly late hours to bring you drink after drink when that eighth shot of tequila really isn’t sitting well and you just want to go home with some lip lickin’.

We think it’s about time these unsung legends got the recognition they deserve, so let us introduce you to Gaz K-B – a man with a mysterious name and the best bartender in Aber this week.

Bartender at Harry’s, home to the Gar and cheapest quad vod in town, K-B is a second year zoology student and one of the finest barkeepers in town.

K-B started working last year and hasn’t looked back: “Mate, it’s absolutely awesome. Really chilled out and flexible and the other bar staff are just amazing.

“The best thing about being a barman is getting people, erm, socially lubricated and just watching people have a great night.”

Gaz maybe a second year of Zoology but he used to study Equine sciences before he was kicked in the chest by a horse and he decided there’s far better animals to study out there than vindictive horses.

When he isn’t making small talk and giving the perfect head to customers, K-B considers himself a hit with the ladies.

“Well mate, to be honest I’m a traditionalist… I take the lady out and pay to wine and dine her, and then well… we’ll see. I don’t have Netflix though, no Netflix and chill.”

The suave, down-to-earth bartender added: “I get plenty of phone numbers, girls love a good barman.”

Bar manager of Harry’s, Ellie, agreed: “K-B is brilliant, the ladies love him and that’s why I keep him round.”

He also doesn’t mind sports socials, despite the carnage they cause.

“Oh I love socials, absolutely love them. There’s nothing better than getting involved in their beverage games – ‘beverage’ because you absolutely can’t say the D word on socials.

“The craziest thing I’ve seen at a social? Well there’s always something but it’s got to be the dirty pints, absolutely grim things…”

So why is Harry’s the best bar in Aber?

K-B suggests it’s because they’re the only pub that “makes their own playlists, we even take requests not that anyone actually knows it.”

“Obviously it’s nice to have some extra dollah whilst at uni, and the best thing about Harry’s is that you get to see people at the start of the night, before they all get wrecked on their socials,” he added.

“You get to see people’s fancy dress before all the beers get spilled over it and the beginnings of the one night romances.”

But K-B is easy going and gets on with everyone – but he does have one request for Aber’s student body: “Please stop smashing glasses and chundering in the loo’s.”
