The men’s Rugby Union Club are banned from socials and games after the University found out they hosted initiations.

The club are suspended until the end of this academic year, it was revealed today.

The SU released a statement which said: “Aberystwyth Men’s Rugby Union Club has been suspended until the end of the 2014-2015 academic year by a panel of trustees of the Students’ Union.

“The Students’ Union is very clear that while social events for clubs and societies are an integral part of their activities, so called ‘initiation ceremonies’ are not.

“The trustees received evidence from multiple individuals that Men’s Rugby Union had been running initiation ceremonies through the year, and felt the decision to suspend the club was a proportional response.”

It is thought the reason behind their ban is to do with an outlandish initiation ceremony, the details of which have not been revealed.

“Evidence from multiple individuals” landed the rugby lads in hot water earlier this month when they were reported to be suspended pending an official investigation.

They were said to be “gutted”, but the team will have the chance to appeal this notion.
