American Nightmare: Where are Denise Huskins and Aaron Quinn now?

Netflix’s latest true crime instalment is called American Nightmare, and it shares the story of Denise Huskins and Aaron Quinn. The young couple went through a terrible kidnapping ordeal, but the authorities told them their story was too far-fetched, and instead treated them as suspects in a kidnapping hoax.

In 2015, Aaron rang police and told them his girlfriend Denise had been abducted. He said intruders had invaded their home in the early hours of the morning, tied them both up and blindfolded them, before taking Denise. The couple had been given sedatives, and told the kidnappers were from a highly experienced crime group who come after financial debt.

Once Denise had been taken, Aaron was told the kidnapping was intended for his ex, Andrea. After two days of being held hostage, Denise was brought home. She said she had been locked in a house, and sexually assaulted twice. Police dismissed the claims, and at first accused Aaron of killing his girlfriend, and when Denise returned said she had tried to carry out a real life version of the film Gone Girl, and had faked her kidnaping.

Where are Denise Huskins and Aaron Quinn from American Nightmare now?

After detective Misty Carausu picked up a similar case in her area and began to push for answers, it was finally proven that Denise and Aaron were telling the truth. They call Misty their “hero” and thank her for being the reason Matthew Muller ended up in prison. In 2016, Muller pleaded guilty to one count of federal kidnapping and was sentenced to 40 years.

At the end of American Nightmare on Netflix, Denise and Aaron share they are still together and now have two children. They got married in 2018, moved to the coast, and now share two daughters, Olivia and Naomi. Olivia was born in March 2020, and two years later in 2022, Naomi was born. Olivia is now three, and Naomi is one. “It feels like our family is complete,” Aaron said at the end of the Netflix documentary series.

Denise is now a doctor of physical therapy, and in 2021 she and Aaron co-authored a book called Victim F: From Crime Victims To Suspects To Survivors. Aaron is a personal trainer.

The couple share loads about their family life on Instagram, including pictures of them at a pumpkin patch before Halloween, and celebrating the New Year. Aaron’s Instagram focuses on his personal training work, and shows him with his clients and sharing fitness tips. Denise and Aaron are still in touch with detective Misty Carausu, and have posted on Instagram recently with her.

Speaking recently of the ordeal, Denise told ABC News: “You can go through any kind of trauma to where it leaves you devastated and in a place where you just think, ‘This is impossible to move forward from. What do I do next?’ I think ours is an example of that. There is hope. It might take time and it might be a lot of hard work, but there is hope.”
