This Brimsley and Reynolds deleted scene would have changed everything in Queen Charlotte

Their ending is the most tragic Bridgerton love story yet

Netflix’s Queen Charlotte biggest unanswered question is all to do with Reynolds and Brimsley and why Reynolds is missing by the time of Bridgerton.

Bridgerton’s spin-off introduced a brand new romance between Brimsley and Reynolds. But in doing so, they had a tragic end. The Queen’s right-hand man Brimsley and the King’s man Reynolds were in love but they were doomed from the start. They shared fleeting moments but ultimately they didn’t make it. At the end of Queen Charlotte, Reynolds and Brimsley are dancing together before a heartbreaking edit jumps to future Brimsley dancing alone.

Here’s everything we know about the Queen Charlotte ending between Brimsley and Reynolds and how their deleted scene could have changed everything.

Some people assume Reynolds is actually dead

When a character fades away in an ending like how Reynolds did in Queen Charlotte, it’s a sign they have died. This reinforces their absence and suggests Reynolds died before Bridgerton started. But according to Brimsley actor Hugh Sachs, the answer as to what happens to Reynolds is even more tragic than the possibility of him dying.

Sachs told Vulture the two simply grew apart, which was set to be shown in a deleted scene. He said: “There was a scene that we didn’t film, because it was cut, where I was going to meet the older Reynolds. He was the love of his life, and for whatever reason, they could not stay together. So, when they would pass each other in the passageway in the deleted scene, it wasn’t a toxic moment. Because of the world they inhabited, it was still a hangable offence to be gay, and it was just not possible.”

This answer doesn’t really fit Reynolds and Brimsley’s arc, nor does it agree with the love we see in Bridgerton and Queen Charlotte.

Viewers think Reynolds left Brimsley before Bridgerton

When Queen Charlotte asks Brimsley if he is married or has a family, he asks how anyone could be in a relationship with him when he is by her side at all times. Assuming Brimsley still works in the Royal Household, as the deleted scene would suggest, we are able to think they made a choice to end their relationship. Obviously this is a far easier pill to swallow than the one to do with a tragic queer death or trauma.
