Cardiff University releases plans for new student accommodation

Cardiff University has released its plans for a new “purpose-built accommodation.”

According to the university, the accommodation will be located in Bevan Place, formerly the site of Gabalfa’s Brickyard Business Park.

The new plans have projected to house 665 students, it would further add to the extensive Talybont accommodation complex.

Current plans for the build include six stories, a reception, a social and plant hub, alongside three well-being courtyards and parking areas.

The site itself has been vacant since 2018, when the demolition of the previous industrial buildings occurred.

The area is highly accessible, with a main road and bus stops located nearby, as well as both pedestrian and cycle paths.

The pre-application consultation, which is mandatory for major planning applications, began last week on Monday 20th July.

It will run for 28 days until Monday 17th August 2026, while a Public Consultation took place at the Talybont Social Centre, 3pm-8pm on Wednesday 29th July 2026.

The public event allows those interested in the university’s plans to speak directly with members of the design team.
