Drag Race’s Mistress claps back to backlash she ‘platformed’ Arrietty after her Irene scandal

‘I do not give Arrietty a pass for what she said – in fact, I shred her’

Drag Race drama has once again erupted and you know full well Mistress Isabelle Brooks is at the scene of the crime. It’s been a while since this saga kicked off but it’s all to do with the beef between Irene the Alien and Arrietty, where Irene said in an interview with Mistress that Arrietty was disowned as her drag daughter because of an issue they’d had. This prompted Arrietty to make a series of false allegations about Irene that were extremely serious, and then Arrietty issued an apology. Now though, Mistress got Arrietty on her YouTube show to rank cancelled and problematic queens from Drag Race and she has responded to backlash for giving Arrietty a platform after what she did.

What happened between Arrietty and Irene?

After Mistress Isabelle Brooks interviewed Irene the Alien in the midst of All Stars 10, Irene said Arrietty was no longer her daughter because of some drama. Irene said “Not any longer. I will say this: I never forgive someone who f*cks with my money, my character, or my mans… she truly tried it.”

After it all kicked off on Twitter following this and Arrietty posted some serious allegations that were hastily deleted, Arrietty did a statement on Instagram saying “I deeply regret responding impulsively and acknowledge that what i said (particularly the insinuations I made) caused harm. After a conversation with Irene herself, we decided a public statement was necessary. I want to take full responsibility for the language I used, including the words ‘prepubescent’ and ‘racist.” ‘While they were intended as exaggerations, I now understand that they were not only inappropriate, but also deeply hurtful and unnecessary.

“To Irene the Alien, and to the wider LGBTQIA+ community, I offer my sincerest apologies. In a time when our community already faces immense external pressure and hostility, it’s even more important that we show up for one another with respect and compassion. I take full accountability for my actions, and I am committed to doing better. Thank you for reading, and for holding me accountable.”

Mistress now had Arrietty on her YouTube and got called out for going ‘easy’ on her

After Arrietty came onto Mistress’ YouTube channel to discuss cancelled and problematic queens from Drag Race, Mistress received some slack from the fans for having Arrietty on in the first place and because some felt like Mistress didn’t hold Arrietty accountable enough for the things she said. Words like “prepubescent” in relation to a drag queen is of course very damaging – especially as the culture in America is trying so hard to demonise drag queens around children. Like we’ve seen with Drag Queen Story Time, for example.

Responding to a fan calling her out, Mistress explained in more detail why she had Arrietty on her YouTube channel. “Irene and I discussed this already before this video was posted. If you actually watch the video I do not give Arrietty a pass for what she said, infact I shred her and let her know that she should be very grateful that Irene handled the situation with forgiveness and compassion as I would’ve got her together.

“That being said, I think that conversations can be had and people can show growth. Having a conversation with someone who is admitting their own mistakes and taking accountability isn’t “platforming”. I think we all could benefit from people at least hearing us out and holding us accountable.
