Explaining the volatile Irene and Arrietty Drag Race drama, as serious allegations get made

‘I acknowledge that what I said – particularly the insinuations I made – caused harm’

Over the past week, major RuPaul’s Drag Race drama has erupted as Arrietty, the former drag daughter of Irene the Alien, made bombshell allegations regarding the current All Stars 10 frontrunner. What started initially as what people thought to be the usual level of Drag Race drama and feuding has gone on to more serious allegations made by Arrietty towards Irene in a serious of now deleted tweets. Whilst the tweets have gone, these allegations have led to Arrietty posting a huge apology and admitting that she takes full responsibility for the false comments. Here’s the entire Drag Race saga explained as the Irene and Arrietty saga continues to unfold.

The drama started via a video on Mistress’ YouTube channel

In a video on Mistress Isabelle Brooks’ YouTube channel, where she posted a video interviewing queens at the All Stars 10 premiere. In the video, Mistress asks Irene if she’s still associated with Arrietty. Mistress says “How would you describe your situation with Arrietty? Because that was or is your drag daughter.”

Irene replied: “Not any longer. I will say this: I never forgive someone who f*cks with my money, my character, or my mans… she truly tried it.”

The pair no longer follow each other on social media, and Arrietty spawned many parody tweets after saying she was going to release “the real tea” but was keeping “it cute” because she’s trying “to grow” – assuringly referring to her history of being at the heart of drama on her season and after it on social media.

Arrietty posted bombshell allegations in deleted tweets

Arrietty posted on Twitter on Tuesday referring to Irene saying “money, character or mans'” in the Mistress video by saying “So yes, the drama was about money. I produced and booked a show in Seattle. I invited Irene to come host. She got on the race and got a raise. Cool! I got on the race, all of a sudden money is tight? Okay, as a producer / booker I tried to plan a way to divvy up the earnings which is exactly what producers do, it’s not a crazy or wild concept, every show producer deals with this.

“She didn’t want to make any changes and it looks like I was trying to ‘steal’ / mess with her money, it was $50 y’all. And to be frank, her friends hated me already, so at this point she’d already made her mind up about me. She needed a reason to call it quits.”

Arrietty continued: “That’s the story, so no it wasn’t character. You did that sh*t to yourself when you said and did racist sh*t and everyone hated you a while back, remember?

Arrietty then made claims implying various allegations against Irene – which she has now addressed further in the apology she posted today.

Arrietty has not provided any evidence for the allegations she made towards Irene in the Drag Race drama, but she did post a follow up tweet clarifying what she said – which has now also been deleted.

Arrietty has now posted an apology, after speaking to Irene

After a couple of days without any update from either party, Arrietty has now apologised for the allegations she made. In a post on her social media, Arrietty said: “Good evening, On Tuesday, despite my best efforts to remain composed and rise above the gossip, I allowed a moment of anger and weakness override my better judgment. In an instinctive attempt to protect myself, I reacted to speculation that stemmed from comments made by Irene.

“I deeply regret responding impulsively and acknowledge that what i said (particularly the insinuations I made) caused harm. After a conversation with Irene herself, we decided a public statement was necessary. I want to take full responsibility for the language I used, including the words ‘prepubescent’ and ‘racist.” ‘While they were intended as exaggerations, I now understand that they were not only inappropriate, but also deeply hurtful and unnecessary.

“I am truly sorry for any pain or discomfort my words may have caused. I hope people can understand the very human instinct to defend oneself, and perhaps even relate to the experience of making mistakes in emotionally charged moments. Many of you may remember a similar misstep I made during the roast. I had hoped I’d grown from that experience, but clearly, I still have work to do.

“In this recent situation, I momentarily lost sight of that growth. I recognise that I have a tendency to react emotionally, and I want to be transparent in sharing that I am actively seeking support through talk therapy and anger management. I am committed to learning better tools for handling difficult situations with grace and care.

“To Irene the Alien, and to the wider LGBTQIA+ community, I offer my sincerest apologies. In a time when our community already faces immense external pressure and hostility, it’s even more important that we show up for one another with respect and compassion. I take full accountability for my actions, and I am committed to doing better. Thank you for reading, and for holding me accountable.”
