What’s really going on with KATSEYE, as they drop out of Olivia Rodrigo’s Daisy Chain festival

‘It breaks our hearts’

KATSEYE have pulled out of Olivia Rodrigo’s Daisy Chain Fields Festival just days before they were due to perform, after Megan injured her ankle during tour rehearsals.

The group were set to appear at the festival in Irvine, California, this Saturday, but announced on social media that they would no longer be taking to the stage after Megan was injured.

In a statement, KATSEYE apologised to fans who had made plans to see them and explained that Megan had been advised by doctors to rest her ankle.

“We’re so incredibly sorry to share that we are unable to perform at Daisy Chain Fields this Saturday,” the group said. “Megan sprained her ankle yesterday during tour rehearsal and after being evaluated by doctors, she has been advised to stay off it and allow it to properly heal so we can be ready for our upcoming tour.”

After everything that has been going on with KATSEYE lately, fans could probably have done without another setback.

The group went on to say that cancelling was particularly upsetting because of what the festival represents beyond just its music lineup.

“It breaks our hearts to disappoint anyone who made plans to be there,” they said. “We were especially excited for Daisy Chain Fields because it’s not just about music, but the greater mission of joy and community.”

They also sent their support to Olivia Rodrigo, as well as the artists, charities and volunteers involved in putting the event together.

“We’re sending all our love to Olivia and to all of the incredible artists, non-profit organizations and volunteers who have given their time to make this day so special,” KATSEYE continued. “It’s going to be such an amazing day, and we can’t wait to see everyone out on tour.”

The cancellation comes after KATSEYE have already had a pretty turbulent few months when it comes to their lineup.

The group originally formed as a six-piece in 2023 after members were brought together through the Netflix competition series The Debut: Dream Academy. But earlier this year, both Sophia Laforteza and Manon Bannerman announced breaks from the group.

Sophia temporarily stepped back to focus on her “mental health and wellness”, while KATSEYE’s labels, HYBE and Geffen Records, announced in February that Manon would be taking a “temporary hiatus” to “focus on her health and wellbeing.”

There have been few further details about either member’s situation since, although the remaining KATSEYE members have repeatedly made it clear that they are supporting both Sophia and Manon.

During an appearance on Today, Lara Raj spoke about how important it is for the group to look after themselves, particularly while two of their members are away.

“As KATSEYE, it’s so important to us to always prioritize our well-being,” Lara said. “We stand by Sophia and Manon through and through. We ride for them.”

She then added: “We love you guys so much, always.”
