RuPaul’s Drag Race finalist reveals she’s entered rehab and ‘will be gone for a while’

The queen has opened up about how she’s undergoing ‘substance abuse treatment’

RuPaul’s Drag Race season 17 finalist Lexi Love has opened up about how she will be taking a break as she enters rehab for substance abuse treatment in a new post on her social media. Trans legend Lexi Love was an icon on this year’s season of Drag Race, who got to the top with a few wins under her belt and was known for her incredible looks on the runway. Lexi Love was also very candid on Drag Race about troubles she’s faced in her past regarding her relationship with her family – which included her getting kicked out of her home – and with substance abuse in the past. Now, Drag Race finalist queen Lexi Love has opened up about how she’s going away to rehab and will be taking an extended break.

Lexi shared the news on Instagram

Lexi wrote on her page “For all you curious cats, I was brave enough too take my mental, physical and emotional health serious for the first time ever. I am in rehab and will be gone for a while. Y’all better get ready for what’s coming.”

Speaking further to Entertainment Weekly, Lexi’s manager and long time friend TJ Liedel explained how a combination of past trauma and current substance abuse issues led her to going to the facility in Texas, where she will be for a month. She’s aiming for complete sobriety, and may have to stay longer than that first month.

“Her family, friends, and fans all know the love and light that Lexi has. We know how difficult it is to face these things head on. We’re extremely proud of the courage she has to face publicly, and to be a representative for so many in the community,” Liedel tells EW. “Unfortunately, people demonize these things, but the only way we can get better about it is to be public, share stories, and actively work toward healthier, happier times. We appreciate the support of everyone. Know that Lexi appreciates everyone in their support, and she will be back soon. We Lexi Love you.”

Fellow alumni from Drag Race have reached out to support the queen on her rehab journey – with Willam and Eureka O’Hara amongst those sending Lexi some love on socials.

Sending all my love and light to Lexi at this time – and it’s very commendable for her to be so open with the world about what sh’s going through.
