Calling all aspiring journalists: The Exeter Tab is looking for new contributors

Join us for our open meeting at 6pm on September 28th in The Ram Bar!

The time of year you’ve all been waiting for has finally arrived: The Exeter Tab is looking for new contributors!

Writing for us is rewarding, flexible, and low-pressure. You can contribute as much or as little as you like, and it’s the kind of experience employers love to see. So, why not give it a go?

It’s a great way to boost your CV, share your opinions, get your writing published, make friends, or even just try out something new.

No experience? No problem. Whatever course you study, we’d love to have you on board.

As a writer, you’ll have plenty of freedom – whether that’s reporting on the latest Exeter news, or highlighting your favourite places around the city.

If you’re interested (and why wouldn’t you be) come to our open meeting on Sunday 28th September at 6pm at The Ram Bar on Streatham Campus.

But what exactly is The Exeter Tab, I hear you ask?

The Exeter Tab is part of The Tab, a national student news site with local teams at more than 30 UK universities, and nearly 10 million readers every month – meaning your voice will be heard on a massive scale.

Articles published by The Exeter Tab will be posted on our social media platforms which, combined, have over 34,000 followers.

Our Instagram has over 13,000 followers, our Facebook has 15,000 followers, and our TikTok is quickly growing with nearly 6,000. We create content in many forms, not just writing.

Writing for The Tab is a fantastic opportunity to build real journalism experience while working as part of a young, dynamic team.

Former Tab writers have gone on to write for leading national and international publications, including Vogue, BBC, The Guardian, and The Times.

Our team of student editors are here to guide you, offering training and support as you develop your writing skills – plus you’ll get advice from professional journalists at The Tab HQ.

We hold weekly meetings and socials with editors and writers, making it a great way to improve your journalism and meet new people.

Still not convinced? Here’s a quick list of reasons why you should write for us:

Be part of something bigger

With a combined readership of nine million across The Tab, your ideas and opinions will be heard by thousands of readers.

Make your CV unstoppable

Writing for The Tab is invaluable journalism experience that all employers would love to see. You get to curate your own profile and portfolio – show them how great your journalistic skills are!

Write what you want, when you want

The best thing about being a student contributor for The Tab is that there’s no pressure! You can write as much or as little as you like, with loads of flexibility in the kinds of stories you cover.

Want to pitch an Exeter-related feature or a news idea? Go for it. Whether it’s to me (your Editor-in-Chief) or any of the other editors, you’ll have freedom – we want your ideas to shine!

Grow with a dynamic team

Being apart of The Tab is not just about writing, it’s also about making new friends, sharing ideas, and being part of a team that’s young, fun, and ambitious!
