Man jailed after ramming car into two people who were double-booked in his Airbnb
He was found guilty of inflicting grievous bodily harm
A British man has been jailed for ten years after purposely smashing his car into two people who were double-booked in his Airbnb, South Wales Police reveals.
Johnathan Newbury, 34, was staying at an Airbnb in the Cathays area of Cardiff in July 2024 which he had rented when two people arrived at the door claiming they had also booked that same place.
Things got heated and Newbury and another friend staying at the Airbnb threatened to “bonnet” Ryan Jones and a 17-year-old boy, who had unknowingly been double-booked.
He then followed the two people “at speed” and rammed into them with his SUV, leaving them both with serious injuries. CCTV footage obtained by The Sun shows horrific moment the moment the car crashed into them.
The 17-year-old lost consciousness and suffered injuries to his jaw, ribs, chest, and abdomen. Ryan also injured his pelvis and right foot.

Newbury was found guilty of inflicting and attempting to inflict grievous bodily harm on Monday (16th June) and has been jailed for ten years after a trial at Merthyr Tydfil Crown Court.
Judge Jeremy Jenkins told the court there had been an “element of revenge in the incident”. He also said the 34-year-old had shown “no remorse at all”.
“The vehicle is seen to speed up, to drive on the wrong side of the road into the junction and to deliberately collide with the two men, throwing them up in the air and causing serious bodily injury,” the judge explained.
