Tony had a heart attack after filming MAFS, but this split-second decision saved his life

He collapsed in April but is recovering well

Back in April, six months after the filming of MAFS Australia season 12 wrapped, Tony Mojanovski suffered a heart attack after “just feeling not right” during the week. He underwent an emergency heart bypass at Wollongong Hospital, which went well, and he was discharged four days later.

“Luckily, I went straight to the doctor’s. During the week, I wasn’t feeling well. It has been happening for a long time – I was just feeling not right, like something was on my chest every now and then, giving me heartburn and stuff like that,” he told the MailOnline at the time. “I felt a bit off, too. That’s why I thought, you know what, I’m going to take it easy this week because it was just too much.”

He’s been recovering well ever since, attending Australian Fashion Week with his MAFS fam, and now he’s spoken about the scary experience in an interview with Nine.

A last-minute decision might have saved MAFS’ Tony from the heart attack

Speaking to Nine Entertainment about his heart attack, MAFS groom Tony recalled how a trip to the gym led to him feeling as though something was “off.”

He explained: “I wasn’t feeling well, it was kind of like a scratchy feeling – this has been happening to me for a long time, every year or so, but this time I listened to my body and I took myself to the doctor. This was actually a heart attack. So the little symptoms I was feeling in the two years caught up to me.”

That decision to leave the gym and go to the doctors might have well saved his life, as soon after, he was “collapsing” at the hospital.

“I was pretty much on death’s door, because I had a 100 per cent blockage, and then I had a blood clot in there as well. The doctor sent me to the hospital, and then I started collapsing. It was horrible,” he shared. “That kind of saved my life, doing that. So I tell all my friends and a lot of men my age – ‘don’t hide’. If you feel something, go to the doctors and check yourself out.”

At the time, Tony was consoled by his fellow season 12 grooms, Ryan Donnelly and Adrian Araouzou, and he’s now recovering well and learning to take it easy.

“It’s not like having a pulled muscle on your leg or your arm. It’s your heart. It takes a little bit longer, plus there’s the stent in there. I’m always a little on edge if I feel something, [but] just take it easy,” he added.

“There’s no running or jumping or, you know, riding a bike for an hour. It’s a four to six week recovery process, so that’s where I’m at.”
